The British Potato Trade Association (BPTA) is proud to host the 2010 Congress in Edinburgh from 27-29th May, the first time that this event has been held in Britain. The Congress presents the UK potato industry with a unique opportunity to promote the industry to the rest of Europe. It will also allow the BPTA to showcase the activities of Europatat to our industry and national authorities. | | June 15, 2009 | | | Europatat new president Kees van Arendonk wants to strengthen the European voice of the potato trade sector At its yearly congress in Angers (France), the new elected Europatat president Kees van Arendonk (Netherlands) has presented the proposal of the Europatat 2010 working group to invest in a stronger secretariat in order to strengthen the voice of the European seed and ware potato trade in Brussels. This is considered a necessity as most of the legislation the sector has to cope with is currently made in Brussels. As different issues such as the revision of the plant health policy and the availability of plant protection products, or sustainability and the agricultural policy have a large impact on the potato sector, it is considered essential for trade companies and their national associations to have more intensive interaction on European level. | | June 15, 2009 | | | Europatat Congress 2009: How to prepare the European potato trade sector for a new era ? The congress of Europatat, the Union of the European potato trade, has evolved over the latest years to a meeting of the potato professionals, covering the complete potato chain. After a number of internal meetings on Thursday, an open workshop on Friday deals with a number of actual issues related to the potato sector. The yearly congress sticks to its tradition to rotate in the member states in order to enable local potato professionals to get to know representatives and themes of the European potato chain. This year the Europatat congress is hosted by the French potato trade federation Fedepom, which is linking its national general assembly to it. | | March 12, 2009 | | | Europatat states: 'The UN International year of the potato doesn’t finish on 31 December 2008' Europatat, the European Union of the potato trade, has made an internal evaluation of the activities of the UN International year of the potato 2008. The overview of the activities in Europe shows that in most countries which are represented in Europatat a number of actions in the framework of the IYP2008 have been taken. Most of them included promotion of the potato as a modern and healthy staple food towards specific target groups. Some countries (Belgium, Ireland, United Kingdom) have focused on the school children with actions to help the children to grow and harvest their own potatoes and potato oriented lesson packages, others involved the consumers in their campaigns to illustrate the culinary richness of the potato and its history. Competitions, websites, brochures, exhibitions - all attracted the modern consumer to the traditional potato. | | December 15, 2008 | |
